If you are discontinuing the use of a prescription medication, please see the medication disposal instructions outlined in our FAQ or visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website for more information.
The best way to dispose of expired, unwanted or unused medication is to drop it off at a drug take-back program through your local pharmacy or health department.
To locate a drug take-back program near you, please visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website
If there are no drug take-back programs in your region, please follow the drug disposal steps outlined below:
- Place the medication into a sealable bag
- Remove all personal information from the prescription container label
- Discard both the sealed bag and prescription container in your household trash
The expiration date indicated on your medication is informed by the compounding pharmacy's quality control and safety regulations. It is included as a precautionary measure.
If you apply your topical medication as prescribed, each course of treatment should be completed well before the formulation’s expiration date. Consult the prescribing physician or pharmacy directly if you have any concerns about using your medication after the expiration date has passed.
